Hornex has been used by New Zealand breeders for more than 50 years. The 20gm tube will de-bud about 45 calves. Now supplied complete with applicator cap which allows good visibility of the amount of paste being used (see fig.1) and then serves to spread evenly over the horn bud (see fig.2). The skirt around the applicator rim ensures that the paste is contained on the horn, and is not spread over sensitive skin tissue outside the horn. Hornex is best used as soon as horn buds are clearly felt and visible. Generally this is between one and three weeks after birth.
The Farmhand large dehorner is a development from Shoof. It has been designed to suit the high end of the dehorning market, where strength, reliability and light weight are important. The dehorner is made of hardened stainless steel, with Australian hardwood handles.
The gear set is precision cast to create the most cutting force with the least handle effort. To aid in this the main pivot points are bronze bushed, to reduce rotation loads. All parts are available. Blade opening to 80mm. Handles 70cm long. Length 122cm o.a.
Excess hair growth on udders can be a serious source of contamination of milk, and also a factor causing mastitis infections. Eliminating excess udder hair reduces significantly the amount of mud and manure accumulating on the udder. This dirt can be a significant cause of environmental mastitis. Udder Singe uses a low-temperature butane flame to burn hair away in 1-2 seconds, without causing any pain or damage to udder or teats tissue. Singing of udder hair is common practice in the northern hemisphere. The Shoof Udder Singe is supplied complete with a 600ml canister of butane gas. The wand is 75cm long with a plastic grip. The flame is controlled with an adjustable valve, to produce a ‘lazy yellow flame’ which will not burn the udder (This flame can be tested by running your hand through it). One can of gas should singe 300-400 udders.
The Portasol debudder has now had an upgrade to a MK3 model. This is a completely new tool, made much stronger and more durable, and with improved heat retaining properties. Ignition is improved with a new Piezo starter, and there is also the very valuable option of manual lighting when required. The jet can be removed and serviced by the user. This new tool is a top quality debudder that should last many years of use. NB: The debudder is charged with butane lighter fuel when it is dispatched. Due to freight regulations we can not include a refill-can with the debudder, nor can we supply it separately.
This debudder is made in New Zealand and has been well proven over many years of use. It is a very robust tool, suitable for use in demanding conditions. Supplied with QCC fitting for direct connection to regular 4kg or 9kg LPG bottles. Gas control is by the handle knob, so a regulator is not required on the bottle. A 2.5m-long hose is included. Supplied standard with 18mm tip, with optional 16mm and 20mmn tips available. The heavy tip on this debudder means it will hold its heat well whilst in contact with the horn.
The Express Butane Belt-Pack makes debudding most convenient when doing more than just a few calves. The kit includes a belt hook which enables the butane can to be belt hung. This makes the debudder handle much more convenient to use. All parts are common to all Express Debudders.
*Tip is reversible.
The Express LPG debudder is for use with regular 4kg and 9kg "barbecue" gas bottles. It is supplied complete with regulator and standard POL LPG bottle fitting. Barnes dehorners offer a simple dehorning solution for calves up to about 15 months old. They are a low-cost tool used to scoop out the whole horn bud, ideally also with a ring of hair at the base to ensure prevention of regrowth. Use 32cm tool for calves up to eight months, and 42cm tool for calves up to 15 months. Our economy dehorners are quite adequate for the task, but the quality versions are from Stone Mfg, USA, and feature concentric jaws which cut cleanly all around, without clashing. The quality tools also feature Rockwell 45-standard hardened jaws to retain their cutting edge for life. The stainless steel tool has the advantage of resistance to corrosion. Even the hinge rivet is stainless. Features as for quality range.
This German-manufactured 240v tool is of highest quality manufacture with an extremely robust element. High 700 C operating temperature. The handle design incorporates a flat top area to give an easy pad for hand pressure, without damaging the cord, and also a wire stand to rest the hot iron on during use.
