Drench-Mate Drench powder is a fresh-cow supplement from USA. It contains a mix of vitamins and minerals particularly beneficial for the just-calved cow. When a cow calves, she immediately loses about 50 litres of fluid. This can cause immediate electrolyte challenges. Early correction of this fluid loss can be highly beneficial. Addition of electrolytes should also be considered. Replacing the fluid loss promptly can engender early return to consumption of pre-dehydration food volumes - early return of full appetite, and consequently, early start of full milk production. This 8.6kg bucket should provide 10-11 doses of mineral mix suitable for direct rumen drench into the newly-calved cow. We strongly recommend you consult your veterinarian about electrolytes, and food and water additives, that will help your cows to recover quickly from calving losses and dehydration.
Drench-Mate Drink powder is a highly valuable supplement for freshly-calved cows. It has a mix of vitamins and minerals particularly beneficial for this purpose. Replacing these losses promptly can engender early return to consumption of pre-dehydration food volumes - early return of full appetite, and consequently, early start of full milk production. Giving large-volume drench quantities to freshly calved cows is now recommended and common practice in many dairy-producing countries. Drench-Mate was developed in the USA and is widely used there, where 20+ litres of water ' generally with addition of a high-calcium, high-mineral, feed additive ' is fed to the cow via an oesophageal tube directly into the rumen. The liquid is mixed in the Drench-Mate bucket (25L capacity) and the special oesophageal tube is inserted into the cow's mouth, right through to the rumen. The 3m-long (10ft) hose is marked at the 1.8m (6ft) point to indicate when the outlet will be at the correct location in the rumen. A special slip-tube and nose clamp is first inserted into the cow's mouth, to assist smooth entry of the oesophageal tube, and prevent the cow biting down on it. Once the tube is in place, the user then simply pumps the full volume of mix from the 25L bucket directly into the rumen. The pump gives 0.5 litres per stroke. This procedure - from insert to withdrawal of tube - should take 3-5 minutes. When completed, the tube is withdrawn, and the mouth tube unclamped and removed. This procedure is entirely without stress for the animal. The design of the tube and system makes miss-location into the lungs very unlikely. Full instructions are supplied, training the user to confirm correct tube placement. All Drench-Mate fittings are of brass, stainless steel, and other corrosion-resistant materials. Drench-Mate will withstand years of repeated use. See video demonstration 'How to Drench a Cow' on:
The Farmhand rumen-drenching system comprises of a large double-acting chromed-brass pump with a brass quick-coupling connection onto 1.8m of reinforced PVC delivery hose. This hose then uses another brass quick-coupling connector onto the main heavily-reinforced, flexible, 1.8m rumen tube. The rumen tube has a smooth and heavy end-bolus to take the tube to the bottom of the rumen. At the top of the rumen tube there is a nose clamp. This is attached into the cows nose as the tube is fully inserted down into the rumen. (Air should be expelled from the delivery tube.) The pump is stood into the bucket of drench - up to 40 litres. Each up-and-down cycle of the pump sends 600ml into the tubes. The pump is easily dismantled without tools, for cleaning or maintenance. The pump is 59cm tall overall, with a 52cm barrel diameter.
Chromed brass pump can be used for administration of large volume oral remedies, or for other volume-pumping requirements. A continuous flow is achieved as the device pumps on both upward and downward strokes. The castellated foot device prevents suctioning to container bottom, and also has a nipple suitable for connection of a 10mm suction tube. Dimension is overall height of pump. Barrel is outside diameter. Stroke volume is each cycle - up and down. NB: The 65mm pump is supplied with both a Xmas-tree and a quick-fit coupling. The quick-fit is compatible with our previous model Bovivet drench tube coupling.
